在传统星宿信仰中，白虎是“四象”之一（青龙、白虎、朱雀、玄武），代表西方、秋季，属金，主杀伐。民间认为白虎是“凶星”，可能带来意外、是非、疾病或血光之灾，尤其对“犯白虎煞”的人（如特定生肖或流年冲克者）不利。
 
守护与威仪：
白虎也是道教中的护法神，具有镇宅、驱邪的正面作用。例如，道观中常供奉白虎像以震慑恶灵。
 
2. 拜白虎的目的
 
化解冲克：
如果一个人生肖或八字“犯白虎”（比如属虎、蛇、猴的人在某些年份易冲白虎），民间会通过拜白虎来化解可能的灾厄。
祈求平安：
在“白虎开口日”（黄历中的凶日）或遇到不顺时，拜白虎可避免口舌是非、意外伤害。
传统节日习俗：
例如在“惊蛰日”（农历二月初二左右），广东一带流行“打小人”仪式，同时拜白虎，象征压制小人、驱除霉运。

The White Tiger holds dual symbolic meanings in traditional culture—it is both an omen of misfortune and a guardian deity. Thus, the primary purposes of worshiping the White Tiger are to ward off evil, resolve conflicts, and pray for safety. 
 
1. Symbolism of the White Tiger
 
A Sign of Misfortune & Conflict
In traditional astrology, the White Tiger is one of the "Four Symbols" (along with the Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise), representing the west, autumn, and the metal element, associated with warfare and punishment. Folk beliefs regard it as a malefic star that may bring accidents, disputes, illnesses, or bloodshed—especially for those whose zodiac signs or birth charts clash with it ("offending the White Tiger").
Protection & Authority
At the same time, the White Tiger is also a guardian deity in Taoism, believed to suppress evil spirits and protect households. Many Taoist temples feature statues of the White Tiger as a symbol of divine power.
 
2. Purpose of Worshiping the White Tiger
 
Neutralizing Bad Luck
If a person’s zodiac sign (e.g., Tiger, Snake, or Monkey) or astrological chart clashes with the White Tiger in a given year, worship rituals are performed to avert disaster.
Praying for Safety
On inauspicious days (e.g., "White Tiger Opening its Mouth" days in the lunar calendar) or during personal misfortunes, worshiping the White Tiger is believed to prevent gossip, conflicts, and accidents.

For example, during "Awakening of Insects" (惊蛰, around March 5th), people in Guangdong and Hong Kong perform the "Beating the Villain" (打小人) ritual, which often includes worshiping the White Tiger to expel bad luck and suppress enemies.
